NBA DFS: Ja Morant and top DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy basketball picks for Jan. 21, 2022

Joel Embiid has been putting up MVP-worthy numbers recently, capped off by the 50-point, 12-rebound performance vs. the Magic on Wednesday. The All-Star center has scored at least 30 points in 11 out of the last 12 games, entering play on Friday. The 76ers will take on the undermanned Los Angeles Clippers, providing Embiid another opportunity to make out as one of the top NBA DFS picks.

The Clippers just allowed a great big man in Nikola Jokic to post a 49-point triple-double in Wednesday’s game. Can Embiid become the latest center to shred LA’s interior defense? And what other players around the league are in advantageous positions and should factor into your NBA DFS strategy? Before making your NBA DFS picks for Friday, be sure to check out the NBA DFS advice, player rankings, stacks and top daily Fantasy basketball picks from SportsLine’s Mike McClure.

McClure is a DFS professional with nearly $2 million in career winnings. He’s also a predictive data engineer at SportsLine who uses a powerful prediction model that simulates every minute of every game 10,000 times, taking factors like matchups, statistical trends and injuries into account.

This allows him to find the best NBA DFS values and create optimal lineups that he shares only over at SportsLine. They’re a must-see for any NBA DFS player.

On Thursday, McClure included Suns guard Devin Booker as one of his top NBA DFS picks on both DraftKings and FanDuel. The result: Booker finished with 28 points, six assists and five rebounds to return 42.75 points on DraftKings and 41 points on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, McClure has turned his attention to the Friday, January 21, NBA DFS slate and locked in his top daily Fantasy basketball picks. You can only see them by heading to SportsLine.

Top NBA DFS picks for Friday, January 21

One of McClure’s top NBA DFS picks for Friday is Grizzlies guard Ja Morant, who is listed at $9,300 on DraftKings and $9,100 on FanDuel. Morant is coming off a career game versus the Bucks on Wednesday. He put up 33 points, 14 assists and eight rebounds as the 14 dimes tied a career-high.

Morant is in the conversation for MVP due to his stellar numbers for a surprising Grizzlies team. He is averaging career-highs with 24.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals, to go along with 6.9 assists per game. Morant gets a great matchup on Friday as he gets to face a Nuggets team which is susceptible to opposing point guards. Denver has allowed the fourth-most Fantasy points to opposing PGs on FanDuel and the fifth-most on DraftKings, so Morant is a no-brainer for tonight.

Another key in McClure’s optimal NBA DFS strategy includes rostering Jazz center Rudy Gobert ($8,900 on both DraftKings and FanDuel). The Frenchman has averaged 20 points, 14.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in the three games he’s played since returning from health and safety protocols. He’s also playing four more minutes per game over this stretch as his backup, Hassan Whiteside, has been sidelined due to protocols.

Whiteside is listed as out again on Friday as is Utah’s leading scorer in Donovan Mitchell (concussion). That leaves both more minutes and more shot attempts for Gobert who is the most efficient shooter in the league. He leads the NBA in field goal percentage and should have a highly productive night against the 11-33 Detroit Pistons. Gobert didn’t play when Utah last faced Detroit, but Whiteside put up 21 and 14, so you can see why McClure is high on Gobert for Friday.

How to set your NBA DFS lineups for Friday, January 21

McClure is also targeting a player who could go off for massive numbers on Friday because of a dream matchup. This pick could be the difference between winning your tournaments and cash games or going home with nothing. You can only see who it is here.
