Berlin –

A 22-year-old, who is said to have killed his 40-year-old friend with a heavy glass lantern, has been silent before the Berlin district court. The alleged relationship drama had come in August 2018 in the apartment of the woman in the district Wedding. The young man has put at least 17 heavy blows to the victim’s head and face, according to the indictment read on Tuesday at the beginning of the trial. Homicide is blamed for the 22-year-old.

The asylum-seeker originating from Afghanistan and the Germans had met according to the investigations in March 2018. The 22-year-old is said to have temporarily lived with the 40-year-olds. The deadly attack with a 540-gram lantern had come in an argument. The defendant had also shut the woman’s mouth and nose with her hand to stifle her cries for help and cries of pain, the prosecution said.

At the beginning of the trial, the defense had requested that the case be referred to a juvenile detention center. The exact age of the young man is unknown, they explained. It can not be ruled out that he did not finish his 20th year of life at the time of the crime and therefore could have been an adolescent. The court rejected the application. The process will continue on February 19th. (AP)
