Helicopter in the Hudson

Rescue workers recover the helicopter from the Hudson River.

New York –

In New York, a helicopter crashed shortly after takeoff into the Hudson River. Just minutes after taking off in Manhattan, the helicopter had fallen into the water, reported the New York police. In the accident, therefore, only the pilot was on board, survived the crash. The aircraft was also recovered. A circulating video on the Internet showed how a helicopter uncontrollably turned around its own axis shortly before the impact.

The newspaper “New York Daily News” reported that the 35-year-old pilot jumped from the helicopter into the water and was picked up by a boat. He just had a cut on his hand. Not far from the scene of the crash, a pilot had spectacularly landed a US Airways plane on the Hudson River in 2009 without anyone being injured. (AP)
