May 1: The demo routes
The attention of the police applies this year, especially the alternative neighborhood Friedrichshain and the villa district Grunewald. Friedrichshain wants to pull the traditional left-wing demonstration on the evening of May 1, because there are the formerly occupied and still contested houses in the Rigaer Strae and Liebigstrae – important symbols of the left scene. The Grunewald is targeted by a satirical demonstration at noon on May 1, because the area is considered a retreat for the wealthy and conservative. (AP)

MyFest in Kreuzberg: more politics
The Myfest in Kreuzberg is this year for the 16th time. Local residents organized it for the first time in 2003 to counteract the riots on 1 May: A neighborhood party with discussion stages was supposed to take the place of rioters. A concept that worked better and better over the years and has become a popular crowd puller with over 50,000 visitors.
In recent years, however, the MyFest has become more and more discredited. Critics characterize the pacification increasingly as Ballermann and the residents complained about especially about garbage, noise and the non-political orientation of the neighborhood celebration. The organizers have responded to this criticism, 2019 MyFest is to be quieter and more political: It has reduced the number of stages, there are fewer stands and at 21 clock clock should be over.
